How Swimming Pool Sand Filters Work
Swimming pool sand filters push the water in the pool through a bed of sand and remove it through a set of tubes located at the bottom of the pool. These pool filters use only the top one inch of the sand in the filtration system. The water goes through the sand almost in the same way it does in an espresso machine. The dirty water goes in through the top of the sand filter and the debris is removed leaving clean water to come out of the bottom. The sand filter does get clogged with this debris and this increases the pressure on the filter, so you do have to clean the filter to keep it working properly.
Cleaning a Sand FilterIt is not a difficult process to clean the filter to make sure the water in your swimming pool is safe to use at all times. The steps in this process include:
You have to do this cleaning at least every two weeks. Sand filters for pools look like big balls and they hold hundreds of pounds of sand. They are efficient enough to keep any pool clean, but you can also use a skimmer for the top of the pool. With the cleaning process, you do go through a lot of water so if you do have to preserve water during the hot summer season you might run into difficulty with this type of filter.
