What are Swimming Pool Alarms?

Swimming pool alarms are required by law in some cities, in addition to a 5 foot fence. Pool alarms are great safety products to have in your pool, especially if there are always children around the pool. A pool alarm has a sensor that automatically senses when anyone, pets or people, enter the pool. This doesn't mean that when you are having a pool party that the alarm goes off every time someone decides to go swimming. At such times you can turn the alarm off.

Using an Alarm in the Swimming Pool

An alarm for your swimming pool runs on batteries. When you have it turned on and a child or a pet enters the pool, the alarm is a loud pulsating noise in the pool and in the house. This way you know that someone has decided to go swimming without permission or an accident has happened. You don't need to have anything to tie down the alarm and all you need to run it is a 9-volt battery. Even if someone tries to steal the alarm from your pool, it will go off as long as you have it turned on.

Some of the attractive features of an alarm for your swimming pool include:

  • A remote receiver sounds the alarm in your home
  • It automatically resets 5 minutes after the alarm goes off, so you don't have to remember to reset it yourself.
  • There is a test feature every time you put it in the pool
  • The remote receiver runs on batteries as well, but you can plug it into an electrical outlet in the home
  • The receiver will pick up the pool alarm within 200 feet of the pool.

Even if you have a solar blanket over the pool, you can still keep the alarm in place.
