The Different Material Used in Pool Decks

Pool decks are a really important part of having a swimming pool in your backyard.

Whether you have an inground or above ground pool you do need a swimming pool deck so that when you get out of the pool, you have something comfortable to walk on.

You can have concrete, wood, patio stone or even grass. The patio stone makes a really exquisite looking pool deck and will last for a long time.

Types of Stone Decking Material

The different types of decking you can use for your pool deck have different designs and you have to consider the pros and cons of each one, as well as the cost. Some of the commonly used material for pool decks that really accentuate the swimming pool include:

  • Flagstone. This provides you with a sleek, yet traditional looking deck. The hot sun does make the stone get hot and it is possible to burn your feet if you are going barefoot.
  • Brick. While this looks really antique, brick decking gets hot and slippery when it is wet. It also cracks in areas where there are cold winters.
  • Granite. Any pool deck done in granite has a rustic look and this decking material is very durable.

Brick and tile are the most expensive materials you can get for your swimming pool deck. Cedar is very durable and provides a really great looking deck. When it gets wet, the scent of cedar permeates that air and adds to the feeling of being outdoors.

Every pool needs a deck around it. You want to have a place where you can sit and relax after swimming for a while. It makes the perfect sunbathing location away from the crowds at the beach.
