• Concrete pools can be made in whatever shape you want and contain many different accessories. The bottom of the pool may be smooth or you might like to have a pebble finish giving the impression that you are swimming in a lake. This type of swimming pool is very durable. However, you will have to excavate the backyard in order to install it. It also takes time because you have to pour the concrete and let it set. A concrete swimming pool also comes with a hefty price tag.
• A vinyl-lined swimming pool usually comes in a rectangular or L-shape. You do need to do excavation work, as is usual with an in ground pool, but the vinyl lining only lasts about ten years. While not as expensive as a concrete pool, this type of inground pool is more expensive than a fibreglass pool.
• With a fibreglass in ground pool, you order the pool according to your measurements. It is not made on site, and is only delivered when you have the excavation complete. Then it seems as if you magically have a swimming pool because the backfill of the ground and the water in the pool happen at the same time. A fibreglass pool will last forever.

Things to Consider

Before making the decision on the type of pool, take these things into consideration. Budget, how much do you want or can afford to spend. Shape and size, what shape do you desire and how will it fit in your yard. How do you plan to use it, summer time only or will you need a pool heater to allow for use in the winter also. What extras do you want, spa, swimout, diving board, or cover.
