The Advantages of Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass pools are not a new invention. In fact these swimming pools have been around since the 1950's and will stay in excellent condition for a lifetime. The material used to build a fibreglass pool is resin and fiberglass, the same materials that are used in the making of fiberglass boats. The seamless construction of a fiberglass pool is extremely durable over time. The strength is superior to other materials in weight and size.

Some of the advantages you will realize by having a fibreglass pool include:

• The fibreglass has no effect on the chemical balance of the water
• Chlorine will not damage the pool
• The stairs and bottom of the pool are slip-resistant

Installation of a Fiberglass Pool

A fiberglass pool is not manufactured on site and this makes installing it much easier. You do have to excavate your backyard according to the measurements of your pool. Before you start this work though, you have to make sure you have all the necessary permits from your city or municipal council. Along with excavating the area for the pool, you also need to make sure you dig all the trenches you need for the pipes and electrical wiring. The hole also has to be deeper than the fiberglass shell because sand has to be placed under the pool as a sort of cushion.

The fiberglass pool, already built, arrives on a delivery truck once you have all the preparatory work complete. Then it just has to be levelled and backfilled so you can get started with the pool deck. At the same time as you backfill around the pool, you need to start filling the pool with water. This keeps it level and keeps the pressure the same on all sides.
