The Ultimate in Pool Covers: Automatic Pool Covers

Automatic pool covers are regarded as the best in the line of pool covers that you can get.

Solar covers are the least expensive, but you do have to either cover the pool manually or use a reel. The same thing applies to mesh covers.

You can have an automatic or a semi-automatic cover for the pool, and these are the ones that get used most often because they are so simple to operate.

Reasons for a Pool Cover

If you can afford to have a pool, then you do need to have a cover. Some of the reasons that a cover is essential include:

  • It keeps the heat in the pool and lengthens the time you can spend swimming during the year.
  • It reduces the amount of chemical evaporation that occurs.
  • It keeps the water cleaner because it is like a blanket over the top of the pool.
  • It helps to prevent accidents by children, and adults, falling into the water.
  • When you use it in the winter, it protects the pool from the weather.

How an automatic pool cover works

Both the automatic and semi-automatic pool covers use tracks that are either recessed under the edge or on top of the pool. These tracks guide a blanket across the top of the pool and when you have the pool open, the cover is either in a recessed housing unit or in a bench on one end of the pool. Although it is easy to install the cover when you install the pool, you can add one afterwards.

Some of the automatic models have a built in feature that stops the cover when it encounters an obstruction. You can also have portable pumps to drain off the water from the cover that will accumulate when it rains. Although these covers are typically in a rectangle shape, as long as you can form a rectangle to cover the pool you can use one. Then all you have to do is push a button and the cover automatically covers or retracts from the pool.
